Lionel Messi Bags FIFA Ballon d`Or for Record Fourth Time

Barcelona and Argentina forward, Lionel Messi, has created history by winning the Ballon d’Or, for a fourth consecutive time.

He won the award ahead of Barcelona team-mate,Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentine attacker becomes the first player in history, to win the Ballon d’Or four times in succession. He previously shared the record of three consecutive victories with Michel Platini, while Dutch duo Johan Cruyff and Marco van Basten also won the prize three times.

It was no great surprise, as the 25-year-old enjoyed a sensational 2012, where he scored 91 goals for club and country.

One of them has notched a world record 86 goals for club and country in 2012, while the other has smashed home four goals in cup competitions, including strikes against Oldham football Club and FC Gomel.

Downing has bagged two in the UEFA Europa league something the great Messi has failed to achieve in the highly rated tournament.

In their respective club leagues some say it was probably down to luck that Messi eclipsed the highly rated Englishman by 56 goals in 2012.

World Cup Qualifiers Round Up

Undeniably the match of the night. Two goals from Miroslav Klose and one from Per Mertesacker made it 3-0 at half time to Germany. An early 2nd half goal from Mesut Ozil & Germany’s 14th consecutive win in qualifying competitions seemed to be in the bank.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mikael Lustig got the comeback under way in the 62nd and 64th minutes before Johan Elmander brought them back to within a goal with 14 minutes left. Sweden then got their precious equalising goal in the 3rd minute of extra time through Rasmus Elm, silencing the Olympiastadion at the end of a dramatic evening.
